  1. Is it necessary to be an student, faculty, employee or alumni of any university to request the Pilgrim University Credential? - To request the Pilgrim University Credential it is not necessary to be an student, faculty, employee or alumni. Anybody can request the Pilgrim University Credential. However, to receive the Pilgrim University Certificate it is required to be a student, faculty or alumni from whichever university around the world.

What is the difference between the official Pilgrim Passport and the Pilgrim University Credential? – The official Pilgrim Passport is a document issued by the Catholic Church through the following institutions: Bishop’s Office, Parishes, Way of St. James Associations...) This passport allows you to spend the night in refugios or albergues along the way. Also, it is used to request the Compostela. The Pilgrim University Credential is a document issued by the Universidad de Navarra. It serves as a pilgrim record to receive the stamps from the universities along the route. Likewise, it is used to request the Pilgrim University Certificate, and the Compostela as well. 
  3. What is the difference between the Pilgrim University Certificate and the Compostela?  Pilgrim University Certificate: This certificate certifies the completion of the Jacobean University Pilgrimage from the beginning of the Way to Santiago de Compostela on whichever of the chosen routes. The Compostela is a document that grants the pilgrim have completed, at least, the last 100 kilometers of the way on foot or horseback, or the last 200 kilometers on bicycle. This document is applied for and received from Pilgrim Office in Santiago de Compostela. 
  4. Is it necessary to have a stamp from all the universities to obtain the Pilgrim University Certificate? - It is not necessary to have a stamp from all the universities to obtain the Pilgrim University Certificate. It is enough to have one stamp from one university in each city of the chosen route.
  5. Is it required to bring the Official Pilgrim Passport and the Pilgrim University Credential to have access to the refugios and albergues along the route and to solicit the Compostela? - It is not required to carry both at the same time. It is enough to carry the Pilgrim University Credential because it identifies the bearer as a pilgrim and it serves as a record book to receive the stamps of the universities along the route. As the same time, pilgrim Credential serves as a pass to receive shelter (refugio or albergue) along the route.
  6. Can you obtain the Pilgrim University Certificate in the same manner as the Compostela by completing the last 100 kilometers on foot or horseback or 200 kilometers on bicycle? - To obtain the Pilgrim University Certificate the pilgrim must complete in entirety the chosen route and get the stamps at the universities on the way that prove your passage by.
  7. May I solicit the Pilgrim University Certificate if I do not have the stamp from my affiliated university? - To receive the Pilgrim University Certificate it is mandatory to have the stamp from your affiliated university. If you are unable to obtain the stamp from your university, you may present (or send a copy of) a document of affiliation (i.e. student, faculty, or alumni card; a diploma; official academic transcript; etc.) Also, it is required to have the stamps from the universities along the route with other certifications that prove your passage by them.
  8. When is it necessary to request the stamp from my affiliated university? - The pilgrims may ask for the stamp from their affiliated university before or after the completion the Way. It is not important when you obtain this stamp, it is only necessary that you have it to solicit the Pilgrim University Certificate
  9. Is it possible to obtain the Pilgrim University Certificate if you start from other places different of the beginning of the Way, for example Burgos, Leon, etc.? - To earn the Pilgrim University Certificate is mandatory to complete the entire chosen Spanish route. For example, if you want to do the French route (Camino Francés) and you want to receive the Pilgrim University Certificate, you have to begin at the minimum in Pamplona.
  10. 10. Can you obtain the Pilgrim University Certificate starting in Oviedo? - If you would like to do the “Camino Primitivo” is enough to start the Way in Oviedo to receive the Pilgrim University Certificate.
  11. 11. As a university student may I receive academic credits if I complete the Camino de Santiago? - If you are a university student, you may be able to receive academic credits. It depends on your university. Please ask at your university if it is possible to obtain them.
  12. 12. Is the Pilgrim University Credential an initiative supported by a specific institution other than the Universidad de Navarra? - The Pilgrim University Credential is an project supported since the beginning (October 2003) by many different organizations.
